while this may seem offtopic, the more of us potential developers/researchers that have our little hands on one of these, the more work that will get done on them. please contribute to this thread any online/offline locations for getting these devices. please keep in mind that people interested in this project may be all over the world.
to start with:
electronic goldmine (in the USA, will ship internationally)

Walmart is also selling them in their stores. I've seen them in the computer section with all the wireless hubs.
